[recovery] + [secede] -- cooking tools
Other posts suggest taking a more direct ownership of our food supply by growing our own vegetables, keeping chickens, and sourcing meat from a local ranch. However, if we take pure ingredients and prepare them in impure ways, much of their benefit is lost.
For example, it is common to see even supposedly health conscious people spray PAM on a nonstick pan before cooking eggs. This heaping helping of Teflon and canola oil significantly offsets the nutritional value found in the eggs themselves. Butter and a cast iron skillet would be much better choices.
Similar logic applies to cutlery, ladles, containers, and cutting boards. Cutting meat on a plastic board or stirring a hot soup with a plastic spoon is an excellent way to introduce endocrine disrupting chemicals into the body. Wood, stone, glass, iron, and steel should be preferred over any kind of plastic, even BPA free.
Most health problems are chronic. They develop over a long period of time as a result of accumulated bad habits. Drinking out of plastic water bottles on a trip overseas or using a nonstick pan in a hotel for a few days is not harmful. However, the appalling health of the general public shows what happens when these seemingly trivial details are neglected for decades.
